Connections

Collective thinking, connecting expertise from diverse areas, and connecting people in their community is a key strategy for the Community Safety & Crime Prevention Council. On the following pages you can learn more about how CS&CPC connects people and services, knowledge and activities across the community for a common cause.

Mark Yantzi, CS&CPC Member and Past-Chair of the Communications Working Group, says a few words on crime prevention and the Look Deeper campaign.

In 2004, the Say Hi campaign was launched by the CS&CPC in an effort to help people get connected to their community.

The federal demonstration project Safe & Sound worked in neighbourhoods across Waterloo Region to increase safety right in the places where people live.

CONNECT (Champions of Neighbourhoods Nurturing Effective Change Together) made use of the lessons from Safe & Sound and the development of the integrated model for crime prevention to increase system readiness and appreciation of neighbourhood development as a crime prevention strategy.

JAG (Justice Advisory Group) is comprised of over 25 key stakeholders who come together monthly to support the implementation of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Neighbourtoneighbour Toolkit was developed in partnership with United Way of Kitchener Waterloo and surrounding area. It is a collection of useful tools, stories, tips and resources to help build stronger communities.

WAYVE (Working Against Youth Violence Everywhere) is a youth-led violence prevention group that created a 24-hour Youth Helpline in the Waterloo region.

The Cambridge Steering Committee for Youth hosts a new web site created for youth, by youth, to provide info of what’s happening in Cambridge, Ontario.  It’s called ickzone.com (Information for Cambridge Kids).
