It
has become a truism over the years to say that we should be
focusing on prevention of crime rather than participating in the
revolving door of punishment. And yet this is frequently nothing
more than a lament with little constructive action.
That
is what makes the current initiative sponsored by the Community
Safety & Crime Prevention Council (CS&CPC) in
collaboration with Quarry Integrated Communications so exciting.
There is a new positive feeling of optimism sparked by this
action. It comes not only from the enthusiastic support the
multidisciplinary group of agencies supporting CS&CPC, but
also from the youth whose valuing is the goal of the initial
campaign.
At
a time when there is a tendency to cut back on so called
"frill services" it is increasingly important to get
the message to the public that issues of crime and its
prevention do not call for simplistic solutions but require the
involvement of the entire community.
